Women in Juba intimidated for wearing tight cloth

Eyewitnesses in Juba say recently graduated police officers were harassing young women during the past days because they were wearing tight cloths.

The incidents took place over the Christmas celebrations in different parts of Juba leaving many residents upset. The radio piece indicates that this is not the first time such incidents occur in the semiautonomous region of Southern Sudan.

Although top Government Officials, like the Minister of Internal Affairs condemn such acts, it might affect the referendum on secession. It is reported that some women who were harassed burnt their registration cards claiming they cannot vote in the referendum after such intimidations.
