The authorities decry that some NGOs’ officials are wasting citizens’ money for personal enrichment and with no tangible activity seen on the ground to improve the situation.
In early 2014, the authorities complained that some development partners had left the territory when the mid December 2013 violence broke out between President Salva Kiir’s forces and forces loyal to the then country’s former Vice President Riek Machar in Juba.
South Sudan had last year threatened to expel foreign workers in Non-Governmental Organisations and private companies with an aim to employ mostly nationals in key positions, but the move drew a heavy criticism from its neighbours and the international community.
However, during a meeting on Wednesday June 3, the authorities have as well reiterated the need for Non-Governmental Organisations to employ nationals even in key positions in an effort to shun the high unemployment rate.
