In South Sudan women have a difficult life. Female genital mutilation, denial of education, forced marriages, honour killings, abductions and rape are just some of the harsh cruelties that South Sudanese women have to face in their daily life.
Having navigated these issues while growing up, Sister Dee uses her music to change the plight of her peers.
Sister Dee’s songs raise awareness of these issues and call her fellow women to stand up, get educated and break this vicious circle of oppression”.
Her song Kaju” can now be heard across South Sudan: I want to tell you Mama, I want to tell you Papa, women are tired of being kicked, women are tired of being beaten, women are tired of suffering.”
