Rampant food shortages across South Sudan leave many dependent on food aid, but in some parts of the country, people have plenty of food — more than they can consume.

This disparity has many causes, like the sheer size of the country and its lacking infrastructure, disconnecting people and markets. Widespread insecurity and armed conflict further add to the desperate situation, cutting some areas off completely.
