‘I want to go home’

More than 1.3 million South Sudanese have been displaced by violence since December 2013 — 350,000 people have fled to Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda. There are up to 87,000 people sheltering in UN bases across the country — many are children like Nyawal and her siblings.

The Niles correspondent Ochan Hannington spoke to Nyawal, who says she does not know the reason behind the fighting. All she knows is that it is Salva Kiir and Riek Machar fighting:
