The Nile Basin Media Network is an umbrella in for media professionals and organisations committed to fostering constructive narratives surrounding the Nile Basin, strengthening media capacities and networks in the region, and promoting fact-based and solution-oriented reporting and collaboration among its members.

The Nile Basin Media Network was originally established with support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, commissioned by the German Federal Foreign Office (AA), and is currently coordinated by Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) and partners and governed by an Annual General Meeting of members.

The Niles is the main publication platform of the network and has been bringing journalists together over cross-border issues since 2009. Since 2017, it has aimed to support transboundary water cooperation in the Nile Basin.

How to Join

We welcome individual members to our network free of charge. Fill out the form below to be
considered for membership.
The conditions for membership are:

• Professional Background: Members should have a proven track record in journalism, media production, or a related field, with preference given to those with experience or interest in water resource management, environmental issues, or Nile Basin regional topics.
• Commitment to Constructive Reporting: Prospective members must demonstrate a commitment to producing fact-based, constructive, and solution-oriented reporting as per the network’s objectives.
• Active Participation: Members are expected to actively participate in network activities, including but not limited to workshops, training conferences, and other capacity-building initiatives. Members are also expected to share knowledge with their peers and contribute to building a mutually supportive community within the network.
