IGAD peace process looses credibility among South Sudanese

Participants at a public discussion about the IGAD led peace process on Thursday, July 17, expressed pessimism about the regional bloc’s ability to deliver peace to South Sudan.

They said though the warring parties are largely to blame for failing to resolve a conflict they started, IGAD’s weakness has hampered the search for peace.

Participants also said that while the Government prefers the Arusha peace process, the armed opposition prefers to rely on the IGAD negotiations in Addis Ababa.

And they said one reason IGAD won’t succeed is because the heads of states from IGAD countries are interfering with the work of mediators.
