In South Sudan's Eastern Equatorial State, the powerful downpour in Magwi town led to the collapse of many buildings, including the county administration block and the office of the Magwi County Commissioner.
Children caught in the storm are taking refuge in the Magwi Health Center.In a cruel test of nerves on the eve of the nation's independence, vast stretches of property were destroyed, while others lost their documents in the windstorm. Recently planted crops were also ruined.
Affected communities in the region, which lies about 120 kilometres from Juba, are calling for immediate government assistance.
