At the construction site, GoSS minister of Transport, Anthony Lino Makana, said that the airport will look like the Cape Town airport in South Africa. He added that the first phase of the airport reconstruction will take 12 to 14 weeks.
The development of the Juba Airport is a priority for the Government of Southern Sudan ahead of the declaration of its independence to improve services for passengers and cargo clients.
Currently, the airport receives at least eight landings every day, according to the minister. Once construction is complete, this number will significantly increase, allowing night landing and take off, linking the capital of the future South Sudan to the world.
