First samples indicate overwhelming vote for independence
A small sampling of the votes cast in Southern Sudan\'s referendum on secession indicates an overwhelming vote for independence. The announcement of the final results is expected on 14 February 2011.

Sudan\'s South ended a weeklong plebiscite on Saturday that is likely to split Sudan into two. Polling Officials counted throughout the night and posted first results at individual polling stations early Sunday. Marvis Birungi reports from Juba.
