November 22, 2010 (BENTIU)-The Vice president of the Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS), Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has urged all eligible voters to register for the upcoming referendum in Southern Sudan.

Machar said that the vote of each one of them will not only cast their own voice but will as well determine their collective future and that of the many future Southern Sudanese generations to come.

Dr. Machar said that the people of Southern Sudan need to be prepared for the referendum on 9 January 2010. He therefore called upon the citizens of Unity State to come together and stand united for the secession of South Sudan, leaving behind the grievances of Last April’s general election results.

He warns those who carry out atrocities in Koch County to render their arms and foster a good relationship with the state government allowing for a smooth registration process.

Machar added that people should not think that this referendum is for the politicians, as the future of Southern Sudan as an independent nation state lies now only in the hands of the people.

While speaking during the occasion in Naivasha freedom square, Mrs. Angelina Jany Teny called upon all state citizens to forget the results of April elections and called her supporters to reunite with the state government to get beyond the challenges ahead, in the common interest for all Southern Sudanese.

Governor Taban Deng Gai welcomes the call from the Vice President to bring people of his state together, focusing on the future, the referendum for self determination and overcoming the dividing lines from the past.
