SPLA recaptures Jonglei capital Bor

The Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) recaptured Bor, the capital of Jonglei State, on Tuesday, December 24, days after it was seized by rebels.

Fighting erupted in the South Sudan capital, Juba, in mid-December, following a power struggle between President Salva Kiir and his ex-deputy Riek Machar.
The political conflict sparked widespread violence, which has cost over 1,000 lives, according to UN Special Representative Hilde F. Johnson. The fighting displaced over 81,000 people.
