S. Sudan prepares to halt oil production

South Sudan announced on Tuesday, May 23, it will shutdown oil production ahead of a deadline Sudan has set for oil companies operating on its territory to stop receiving, processing and transporting South Sudan’s crude oil.

On July 9, Khartoum ordered oil companies to complete the shutdown by August 7.

South Sudan has gradually reduced the quantities of oil produced per day over the last week, preparing for the impending shutdown.
