Girls in Unity State complain that rising dowries encourage their parents to marry them off, although many are still underage.

Most dowries in South Sudan are paid in cattle.
Dowries in South Sudan spike, often far above 100 heads of cattle for a girl. For a poor family this means significant wealth, encouraging parents to marry off their daughters at young age.
