Marial made the remarks on Tuesday, May 28, in response to Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir’s threat to shut down the pipeline that carries South Sudan’s oil to Port Sudan on the Red Sea just weeks after oil production resumed.
President Bashir warned Juba in a televised address on Monday, May 27, that if it did not stop supporting rebels in South Kordofan, Blue Nile and Darfur he would shut down the pipeline “forever”.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, The Information Minister and Government Spokesman Barmaba Marial Benjamin said the threat to shut down oil production was -- as he put it -- “not in the spirit of the cooperation agreement” the two countries signed last year.
