Lise Grande, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan, says fighting on the Sudan - South Sudan border and inter-communal violence in Jonglei State have displaced thousands.

Lise Grande (Waakhe Simon Wudu).Additionally the shutdown of oil production has had a devastating impact on the South’s economy. These factors combined leave about 4.7 million people are at risk of food shortages, the UN estimates.

Late last year the UN appealed for nearly $800m to fund humanitarian operations in South Sudan, but so far has only received about a third of the requested amount.
