UN appeals for more than $500m emergency aid for South Sudan
The UN warns that more than half of South Sudan’s population are facing food shortages and appeals for more than $500m emergency aid, mainly to provide food.

Lise Grande (Waakhe Simon Wudu).Additionally the shutdown of oil production has had a devastating impact on the South’s economy. These factors combined leave about 4.7 million people are at risk of food shortages, the UN estimates.
Late last year the UN appealed for nearly $800m to fund humanitarian operations in South Sudan, but so far has only received about a third of the requested amount.
