A stumbling block to free media: the absence of press laws

Journalists in South Sudan are beset by numerous challenges affecting their daily operations. The absence of media legislation is seen by many as the most severe one.

According to government officials, South Sudan provides a free and fair media environment despite the absence of press laws.

Many journalists however say that they constantly face restrictions and call for greater freedom to provide consistent and comprehensive coverage.
