Mahir Abu Goukh

Mahir Abu Joukh was born in Basra, Iraq. Mahir received a BA in Political Science from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at the Islamic University of Omdurman in Sudan. Mahir published his first newspaper article on the sports page of  the Al-Sudani International in 1994, while he was in his first year of high school. Mahir worked for different newspapers such as Al-Sudani weekly and daily where he was assigned to the news and politics desks. He then became the chief of the political section until he resigned in March 2011. Mahir has been living in Canada since September 2011, but continues his cooperation with the newspaper Al-Sudani by writing articles and analysing politics and news. Mahir joined the mict project in Sudan and South Sudan in 2009. He was involved with the project team in the coverage of the 2010 elections in Sudan, as well as the referendum for Southern Sudan in January 2011, and finally the independence of South Sudan in July 2011.
