Tackling avoidable labour disputes

Little to no knowledge about South Sudan’s labour laws causes avoidable disputes between employers and employees, says the Labor Department in Yei.

After the independence from Sudan, South Sudan embarked on a tough task of establishing a proper system in its newly created institutions — and the struggle still continues, amid challenges.
 
The Labor Department was established in Yei County to put in place the law governing both employers and employees.

But after two years, the majority of citizens in the county know little about their own laws. The local government, with support from some NGOs, is trying to inform the population.
