Waakhe Simon Wudu

Known as “Boboya” by his fellow South Sudanese, Simon works as Central Equatoria State Correspondent for the Gurtong Trust, a peace and media project.

He has been part of the mict Sudan/South Sudan project team since the project started in 2009.

Though only in his mid-20s, he has already produced hundreds of articles for the Juba Post, Gurtong and sudanvotes.com/theniles.org, and could probably out-write you in his sleep.

Simon describes himself as a “prolific, political and conflict-sensitive news writer.” He also likes to report on women’s and children’s issues.

With his firm belief in the role of journalism as watchdog over those in power, he says he wants to “contribute to more democratic processes in South Sudan -- governance by the people for the people.”

On a lighter side, Simon loves the traditional food from his home area -- bush rat, commonly known as “Mijhi”. He likes swimming and is a great supporter of Manchester United Football Club.
